Drs. Skrabal and Kieber Receive "Project of the Year Award" from SERDP

On December 2, 2003, Drs. Stephen Skrabal and Robert Kieber of the UNCW Department of Chemistry received the "Project of the Year" award in the compliance program area from the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP).  The award, presented in Washington, DC, was for their project titled Speciation, Fluxes, and Cycling of Dissolved Copper and Zinc in Estuaries: The Roles of Sediment-Water Exchange and Photochemical Effects.  Drs.Skrabal and Kieber were assisted in their work on this project by Dr. Robert F. Whitehead (former postdoctoral researcher in chemistry and now on the staff at CMS), Dr. Chris Shank (former UNCCH Ph.D. student who completed his thesis at UNCW while working on this project), Kristie Lieseke (M.S. student), and Michelle Smith (M.S. student)

SERDP is a federal program jointly administered by the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and the Environmental Protection Agency.  The program supports research and technology related to environmental issues affecting defense-related operations.
